A sunny weekend greeted us for round 1 of the City Car Cup, a trackday on the Thursday to work out any kinks in the car before qualifying on the Saturday. This being our first event with a new car this was also used as track time to get acclimatized to the new car, quickly getting to grips with how to use the limited power available under the bonnet of the little Aygo.

Saturday morning soon rolled around and it was time to go to work, after the mandatory briefing in the morning it was time to head out on track for qualifying. A good time set here would have put us in good standing for the start of race 1 in the afternoon.
Unfortunately due to multiple yellow flags and getting held up with traffic on track we managed a less than ideal 34th position for the start of race1.
But we remained in high hopes to make up a few places during the race, as we gridded up for the start the nerves soon faded to adrenalin and focus waiting for the lights to go out!
Battling through the pack for the 15 minute session we managed to gain 10 places during the race! Netting us a P24 start for race 2 later that day.
Starting further up the grid made it more difficult to gain positions with the level of talent on the grid, none the less make up positions we did! Not as many as race 1 partially due to an abundance of yellow flag sectors where no overtaking is allowed, by the time we took the chequered flag we finished in P21.
A misty cold morning greeted us on Sunday for the final race of the weekend, With our class being the first race of the day the track was not at an ideal temperature for racing, made worse by the fact that classic fords had their qualifying session that morning, and with old cars comes oil left on track!
Never the less we had a job to do, aiming for a top 20 finish at a minimum for race 3 we pushed from the start, working our way up to P13 before we unfortunately made a mistake on track, pushing abit too hard, loosing us a few places down to P19. Knowing we still had some time to gain back the positions our driver put his head down to gain back the places.
But disaster struck, a pair of competitors further up the field pushing too hard caused a huge crash, with one of the drivers making a serious impact with the barrier, fortunately everyone involved was okay, but it did mean this brang out the red flag and an end to the session, dashing our hopes of regaining the lost positions.
Finally finishing the race in P19, Bringing a close the our opening weekend.
Hopes and expectations are high for round 2 in may at Oulton Park Circuit, with new parts ordered in hopes of a small performance improvement.
Thank you for reading and see you at Oulton Park May 10th!!
